About the Author
Papiya Bhattacharya is a freelance writer and science journalist. She teaches science writing at the Centre for Human Genetics in Bengaluru, and loves to write short stories and poetry. With a Master’s in Biochemistry, she has recently joined a Ph.D. programme at Jain University.  Her areas of interest include health policies, technology, ecology and environment, wildlife, agriculture, climate change, women and social issues surrounding them, and culture, literature, art and music.

A marriage
Two people who live together
Share not only the roof.
They love each other
For all time to come.
They find each other
In happy and in sad times.
They have the same ideals,
They feel the same pain.
They make each other laugh.
They fight and make up,
They hug and they kiss.
They need each other.
I am yet to find such a marriage.
All I have found is two people
Staying together for reasons
Other than love.
When love has flown away,
When two people pretend,
Life is a lie. We are not here
To make falsehood a way of life.
