About the Author

Dilip M. Menon is a cultural historian of South Asia and is currently a Professor of History and International Relations at the University of Witwatersrand. He has written on literature and film, and his primary work deals with knowledge from the global South and oceanic histories. His recent books include the edited volumes Cinemas of the Global South: Towards a Southern Aesthetics (2024); Ocean as Method: Thinking with the Maritime (2022); and Capitalisms: Towards a Global History (2020). His book Blindness of Insight: Essays on Caste in Modern India was published in a twentieth anniversary edition by Navayana in 2024. In 2021, he was a recipient of the Falling Walls Foundation for Humanities and the Social Sciences for his work on theorizing the global South.
