About the Author:
Born and brought up in Kolkata, Anindita Bose’s work draws inspiration from her city. Her poems and short stories have been published in various national and international, online and offline magazines and anthologies. Her first book, The Virtual Reality (2016), was a collaborative endeavour, co-written with seven other poets from all over India. When not writing she is closely involved in the activities of a poetry group in Kolkata named Rhythm Divine Poets, which she co-founded. She is a freelance editor for Virasat Art Publication and co-edited a collection of short stories, Dynami Zois (Life Force) in 2017. Along with a group of friends she volunteers to support different humanitarian causes in Kolkata. Apart from poetry she is involved in story-telling, translation, painting, photography and travelling.

Last Piece of Paper

she left papers and wills
of lands, a room, her clothes
and the last words that ring
around

a home now turning into
walls, which are holding
the echoes of a first-time wish
to build something out
of bricks, stone chips and mud

and her children wailing with
those old papers, crumbling
among their fingers

a little girl, perhaps her
progeny, searches for just
one paper amidst all those
old expensive deals

just one paper with words
written by a grandmother
for a grand-daughter

the paper might be hiding
somewhere
