Requiem

Why do you take to the deserts
Now, when we need you?
You say your rooms are all allotted
There is no space for new.
The great-grand-nieces and -nephews
Only blunder into your overcrowded memory.

I know how you cling and persuade the desert
For mirages that help you live a life outdated
The dunes you said are everchanging
You struggle to recognize them
With eyes blurred with cataract and sand.
They send you unreliable erratic messages.
You let the sand dribble away
Losing grip
Like the genes you leave behind
To uncertain life.
